Runescape Items Databases

Zybez have recently launched a new runescape items database to complement their market priceguide and their shop database. This latest introduction adds a large amount of information to the overall help site and can be compared to the offerings of other sites.

On my own site, I still need to get some specific databases designed and implemented to add much greater usefulness to the site. However, currently there is no rush on developing one as there are several runescape item databases on multiple different fan sites. If I get around to it, I would be looking at doing it a bit different so that all the factual information was included but also some additional information. At this stage there are simply too many other things to get done.

Anyway, with the latest items database currently in beta stages, it will be interesting on how this works out compared to other established item databases. One thing runescape seems to love is to have many virtually redundant items that serve little or no purpose. I wonder if Jagex just want to see how many people will fill their bank with junk.

Back to runescape item databases. I have checked around a few of the top runescape fan sites and have listed some of the item databases that virtually provide information on every item in runescape that exists. Obviously each database will also be updated when new items are introduced.

A reference list for runescape items database:

The above list is some that I cam across and I know it is not an extensive list of runescape item databases, however, it covers the largest and most popular sites that have an RS Item database. If anyone has a site that also has a decent sized item database, I guess I can include it on this list - afterall, it can only help people if they see what is available as people may prefer one style of database over the other.

Eventually I will look at getting some individual databases on my own site to cover various aspects - including an items database. For now, I just thought I might as well list the more known about information sources as it is relevant to the runescape market - afterall, it is items that are traded that predominantly make up the marketplace.

All runescape items will have been included at some stage in some of the databases and this enables players to browse through the lists and check what might be worthwhile merchanting or what the normal steady prices for some items are. Item databases will therefore be very beneficial to help with making money in runescape as well as preventing price scams.

Runescape Third Age Rare Items

I have been following some threads in different runescape forums about the rare item prices in the game. Specifically about third age items that are able to be found by members when doing level 3 treasure trail clues.

There have been many discussions relating to the pricing of these items and the fact that they are rare has impacted on the whole merchanting system. At this time, the third age items are still relatively rare and are the main reason why people are doing more treasure trails. However, the main difference with the third age items and traditional rare items like party hats and santa hats, is that they will increase in number as time goes on.

Now, merchanting such items is currently restricted due to the low numbers currently in the game - it is increasing demand for them and pushing prices on an upward spiral. At some point it will stop increasing and merchanting will be much more restricted as either new items will be introduced by Jagex or players will change their desire to own them.

Through checking price guides, the melee armour is by far the most desired and costly. Brieftly, the third age runescape item prices at this time are:

Mage Items:

  • Third Age mage hat - 8,000,000gp - 8,100,000gp
  • Third Age robe top - 20,000,000gp - 21,000,000gp
  • Third Age robe - 12,000,000gp - 15,000,000gp
  • Third Age amulet - 12,000,000gp - 15,000,000gp
Estimated Third Age Mage Set Price: 52,000,000gp - 59,100,000gp

Range Items:
  • Third Age range coif - 8,000,000gp - 10,000,000gp
  • Third Age range top - 29,000,000gp - 32,000,000gp
  • Third Age range legs - 8,000,000gp - 10,500,000gp
  • Third Age vambraces - 4,000,000gp - 5,000,000gp
Estimated Third Age Range Set Price: 49,000,000gp - 57,500,000gp

Warrior Items:
  • Third Age full helm - 20,000,000gp - 23,000,000gp
  • Third Age platebody - 63,000,000gp - 65,000,000gp
  • Third Age platelegs - 35,000,000gp - 40,000,000gp
  • Third Age kiteshield - 115,000,000gp - 130,000,000gp
Estimated Third Age Warrior Set Price: 233,000,000gp - 258,000,000gp

Obviously the price for a whole set is just based on the current price range that these runescape items are trading at. However, it is likely that the top range would be the least expected by anyone who currently has a full set if they wished to sell.

At this time, merchanting does seem to be extremely viable, although price instability in the whole runescape marketplace could quickly change that. It is definately a risk to merchant these items as attitudes to the prices can quickly change and merchants can be left holding white elephant goods.

Overall, my advice is only purchase the items if you are wanting to hold onto them for future use - or if you are expecting to sell them quickly as prices for rare items in runescape that can still enter into the game will inevitably lower over time.

Runescape Santa Prices

Runescape Santa hat prices have increased significantly since the days of runescape classic. This price increase has other factors apart from standard supply and demand issues. The reason for the higher prices nowadays is due to:

  • Slayer skill causing increase in virtual wealth for many players
  • Supply has reduced - and will not increase
  • Runescape money selling sites using macros or bots to increase overall cash in game
  • Long term players general wealth accumulation over time
Lets examine the impact of the introduction of the slayer skill. The slayer skill introduced various new runescape monsters and items into the game. It is a skill that takes time to train up properly and is for members only. However, the abyssal whip, one of the better training weapons was a highly desired item when it was first uncovered. Prices of abyssal whips were extremely high initially and currently trade for 1.7 million coins or so.

Players who had 85 slayer early were able to cash in quickly and buy up supplies of santa hats are more affordable rates. When this happened, other merchants joined the process and quickly santa hats were very much in demand, while the supply was limited. This is where the economics of supply and demand come into play and forced the santa hat prices to increase. As the prices increased, more and more players started to try and merchant them, consequently increasing the rate of price inflation.

The slayer skill was one main contributor to price inflation of santa hats in runescape, although not the only contrubutor. The other facts mentioned also had a direct impact on price stability in the runescape marketplace. My belief is that the people who directly benefitted from the slayer skill introduction were simply the catalyst to the price inflation of rare items in runescape. It didn't only affect the santa hat prices, but christmas crackers, party hats, halloween masks and even pumpkins to a lesser degree.

Overall, the price of rare items in runescape will continue to rise in the long term, however, for people looking to make free easy money it will be a much harder task. It will be much harder as prices for santa hats and other rare items have approached their market ceiling prices and will only gravitate upwards in the long term, not the short term.

If things do follow the laws of supply and demand and rare item prices are determined solely by market forces, my advice for all runescape merchants is to look at other items to merchant. Owners of large amount of rare items can control the market price - and if this is the case, they will control it to their benefit, not yours. Consequently, merchanting rare items (or discontinued items in runescape), is a highly risky method of merchanting as it can tie up large amounts of cash that could be better used to make more money through trading in cheaper items.

Stay safe, play safe and merchant resources in constant demand after building up both a chain of suppliers and a pool of buyers. This will enable any runescape merchanter to safeguard themselves from possible large losses on runescape santa hats.

Runescape Merchanting

Runescape merchanting is one of the best ways of making money in runescape. However, there are many risks that need to be taken in order to secure vast sums of virtual wealth. The road to great riches carries its own risks and is not for players who are impatient.

In the past runescape rare items were some of the best and most reliable items to merchant. That is not the case nowadays as the price of the rare items has increased so much that less people are willing to risk trading them on for small gains.

Instead, items that runescape players tend to merchant nowadays are resources used by players looking to quickly raise their skills. Some of these resources are less prone to price fluctuations and are normally in steady demand, so turnaround times between stockpiling the resources and having the cash in the bank are minimal. This leads to healthy profit levels.

There are numerous things to do to be a successful merchant in runscape. I have listed a few of the essentials below that players should consider:

  • Establish a chain of suppliers
  • Know your prices
  • Ensure you have a buyer for items
  • Gather up resources yourself
The above four things will help players become a better merchant. Knowing prices is key and knowing people (both buyers and sellers), will inevitably help you make better use of merchanting opportunities in runescape.

There are numerous merchanting guides for runescape on various sites, the prices are often out of date for most of the items as the prices usually change daily, although the method is usually still relevant. Again, I must stress, runescape prices are the most important thing players need to know when they decide to merchant. Failing to know the prices will only end up costing a fortune.

Zybez Market Priceguide

Runescape throws up a lot of inconsistent price evaluations - this is mainly due to the fact that different people have a different perception of what price they are willing to pay for any runescape item.

Any runescape help site will find it extremely hard to accurately reflect any set prices - as players can change their perception of an items value on a whim or through a new update into the game. The prices for runescape rare items are extremely unstable due to long term merchanting since the days of runescape classic and the introduction of new skills such as slayer that has had an impact on the overall runescape economy.

With such instability in prices, it is hard to always keep up to date and many help sites have opted to include price ranges rather than specific set trading prices. This enables some fluctuations to occur within the marketplace but doesn't always necessarily reflect the most up to date prices.

Zybez have put together a price database and it is one of the more widely used databases that can be updated regularly to reflect the latest prices in the game. I would suggest people take note of it and always check with it whenever they are considering a large item purchase - it should be reasonably up to date and give an indication to players whether or not they should make their purchase.

Merchanting players should always be aware of the latest item prices in runescape in order to avoid potential losses while trading. In time I plan to include a more function item prices database rather than the current article listings, although in the mean time, Zybez have an excellent market priceguide for players to utilise until I am able to compete effectively. Players wishing to write any guides are welcome to register on my main runescape help site and help me in the process of getting a comprehensive site completed.
